Daily 5/ Reading:
Students will be rotating through the Daily 5 stations.
(Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Listen to Reading, & Work on Writing)
I will be meeting with a group of readers each day, based on their current reading level.
Students will have a specific set of words they are working on during Word Work. These words correlate with the Fry Word List. The goal is for each student to know the first 600 words on the Fry Word List by the end of the year. Your child will continue to work on these words throughout the school year. Each child will work at their own pace. I will be keeping track of their progress.
* Our focus for the next few weeks will be finding the "Main Idea" and "Supporting Details" of a given reading passage.
Phonics:
* Our focus for the next two weeks will be the sounds of the letter "y." Sometimes "y" makes the long e sound. Sometimes "y" makes the long i sound. Sometimes "y" makes a vowel sound in the middle of a word.
Examples: happy (long e), dry (long i), oxygen (long e), trying (long i)
MATH:
* For the next three weeks, we will be working on adding and subtracting double and triple digit numbers. We will also be practicing our math facts. Students will need to successfully complete a 3 min. timed test for each set of addition facts by the end of the school year. We will start working on these math facts, so we all have them memorized.
Writer's Workshop:
* We are currently working on writing paragraphs with a main topic and at least three supporting details. Students will be asked to check their writing guide to make sure they are adding punctuation, using correct capitalization, leaving spaces between words, etc.
